Assessment of Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Food Labeling and Expiry Date among the Female Health Sciences Students: A Public Health Concern

Nutrition information on food labels can help consumers to choose healthier food. We investigated consumers’ awareness of and their influence the decision buy items among students health sciences King Khalid University, Abha. This cross-sectional study involved 350 females who gave informed verbal consent were selected by systematic random sampling technique. Data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Statistical analysis done SPSS version 21. Overall 76.3% knew labeling. Significant differences (p < 0.05) observed between knowledge about labeling education, number family members, earning frequency shopping income. Almost half checked before buying, 43.7% replaced an importance basis value labeling, 60% cost basis. More than ready with no labels, 21.7% even utilized expired because lack regarding expiry date low which could be hazardous for health. Awareness should enhanced including this subject in curriculum electronic media avoid hazards items. Choosing healthy options shall reduce nutrition chronic diseases general population future.
